Book Review: Steel’s Edge (The Edge #4) – Ilona Andrews

Rating: 5/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Genre: Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance

I loved the first book in The Edge series but I didn’t like book 2 and 3 all that much. So I started this book without expectations. I figured only book 1 had been great. But I was pleasantly surprised when Steel’s Edge turned out to be wonderful.

From the first page, I loved Charlotte. She had been through so much and she had retained her dignity. She was strong and I emphasized with her over her troubles. Life’s not fair and the majority of people are self-serving, only interested in what they can get. Charlotte had to learn that painful lesson and she didn’t let it beat her down.

And Richard. OMG, I definitely had major crush on him. He was such a scarred, quiet man and when I envisioned him as a young Clint Eastwood, battered by life and trying to do the right thing. Plus, he was gorgeous. I absolutely adored him.

There was so much I loved about this story. The main characters and seeing the ones from the previous books—George, Jack and Sophie—the kids grown up and with their own troubled thoughts.

The scenes between Charlotte and Richard were meaningful and I loved the chemistry between them. As Ilona Andrews’ trademark, there were action-packed scenes, some filled with fun and awesomeness. There was one scene that was my favorite—when Richard finally told Charlotte how he felt about her. It was so funny and tugged at the heartstrings at the same time. Steel’s Edge was excellent.

Synopsis: The Edge lies between worlds, on the border between the Broken, where people shop at Wal-Mart and magic is a fairy tale—and the Weird, where blueblood aristocrats rule, changelings roam, and the strength of your magic can change your destiny… Charlotte de Ney is as noble as they come, a blueblood straight out of the Weird. But even though she possesses rare magical healing abilities, her life has brought her nothing but pain. After her marriage crumbles, she flees to the Edge to build a new home for herself. Until Richard Mar is brought to her for treatment, and Charlotte’s life is turned upside down once again. Richard is a swordsman without peer, future head of his large and rambunctious Edger clan—and he’s on a clandestine quest to wipe out slavers trafficking humans in the Weird. So when his presence leads his very dangerous enemies to Charlotte, she vows to help Richard destroy them. The slavers’ operation, however, goes deeper than Richard knows, and even working together, Charlotte and Richard may not survive…
