TYCR – 14 Dec 2022 – Rust In The Root – Justina Ireland

Hola, Book Dragons, middle of the week! How are you guys doing? I decided to jump-start life back into this blog meme of mine, especially when I’m reading such a good book and it’s a shame not to blab, ahem, talk about it lol.

I was reading another book yesterday, Seoulmates but I couldn’t get into it and I kept getting irritated. I DNF’ed it coz life is too short and started on Rust In The Root. What a world of difference it makes when you’re reading a book that keeps you engaged! I’m really enjoying my journey into Rust In The Root.

Synopsis:
The author of the visionary New York Times bestseller Dread Nation returns with another spellbinding historical fantasy set at the crossroads of race and power in America.
It is 1937, and Laura Ann Langston lives in an America dividedโ€”between those who work the mystical arts and those who do not. Ever since the Great Rust, a catastrophic event that blighted the arcane force called the Dynamism and threw America into disarray, the country has been rebuilding for a better future. And everyone knows the future is industry and technologyโ€”otherwise known as Mechomancyโ€”not the traditional mystical arts.
Laura disagrees. A talented young mage from Pennsylvania, Laura hopped a portal to New York City on her seventeenth birthday with hopes of earning her mageโ€™s license and becoming something more than a rootworker
But six months later, sheโ€™s got little to show for it other than an empty pocket and broken dreams. With nowhere else to turn, Laura applies for a job with the Bureau of the Arcaneโ€™s Conservation Corps, a branch of the US government dedicated to repairing the Dynamism so that Mechomancy can thrive. There she meets the Skylark, a powerful mage with a mysterious past, who reluctantly takes Laura on as an apprentice.
As theyโ€™re sent off on their first mission together into the heart of the countryโ€™s oldest and most mysterious Blight, they discover the work of mages not encountered since the darkest period in Americaโ€™s past, when Black mages were killed for their powerโ€”work that could threaten Lauraโ€™s and the Skylarkโ€™s lives, and everything theyโ€™ve worked for.

What about you guys? Have you read this book or planning to in the not-so-distant future?

Hope the rest of the week goes well. Stay tuned.

TYCR – 28 Jul 2020 – The Obsession – Nora Roberts

Hola, Book Dragons, how are you? If you follow my blog, you know what a crazy fan of Nora Roberts I am. Lol. Disclaimer: I don’t claim to have read all her books or even loved all of them. But I’ve read about 100 or so and a majority of that hundred is among my favorites. She’s one of the top-notch storytellers I have ever seen. The best part? Her writing is simply, magical.

I’m on a re-read of The Obsession because I was missing Xander a lot. ๐Ÿ˜

The Obsession – Nora Roberts

34536820._SY475_

Synopsis:
โ€œShe stood in the deep, dark woods, breath shallow and cold prickling over her skin despite the hot, heavy air. She took a step back, then two, as the urge to run fell over her.โ€

Naomi Bowes lost her innocence the night she followed her father into the woods. In freeing the girl trapped in the root cellar, Naomi revealed the horrible extent of her fatherโ€™s crimes and made him infamous. No matter how close she gets to happiness, she canโ€™t outrun the sins of Thomas David Bowes.

Now a successful photographer living under the name Naomi Carson, she has found a place that calls to her, a rambling old house in need of repair, thousands of miles away from everything sheโ€™s ever known. Naomi wants to embrace the solitude, but the kindly residents of Sunrise Cove keep forcing her to open upโ€”especially the determined Xander Keaton.

Naomi can feel her defenses failing, and knows that the connection her new life offers is something sheโ€™s always secretly craved. But the sins of her father can become an obsession, and, as sheโ€™s learned time and again, her past is never more than a nightmare away.

I love Xander. He’s one of my best guys. He’s a total book dragon, too and man, how can you not love him? ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ If you haven’t read this book, definitely give it a try.

What about you guys? What are you reading?

TYCR – 13 June 2020 – Switched (Trylle #1) by Amanda Hocking

Hola, Book Dragons, how are you? Whatcha reading? I started the first book in the Trylle series by Amanda Hocking – Switched.

Do you have a NetGalley account? If you do, you know how some books are “Wish For It” only. I have no idea why that is. Do you? Well, for the first time ever, a publisher granted one of my wished books – The Morning Flower (The Omte Origins, From the World of the Trylle) by Amanda Hocking. So of course, I have to read the Trylle series before I start on this new series. ๐Ÿ™‚

TYCR – 13 June 2020 – This Eternity of Masks and Shadows – Karsten Knight

Hola, Book Dragons, how are you? Whatcha reading? I have to say I really love this blog meme I created. (Can you see the modesty? ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) It’s so perfect for when I don’t have inspiration for a blog post and it allows me to publicize books a lot more.

This Eternity of Masks and Shadows – Karsten Knight

eternity of masks & shadows

Synopsis:
In a city of gods and mortals, secrets never die.

The gods walk among us. Some lurk in the shadows, masquerading as mortals; others embrace their celebrity status, launching careers from Hollywood to Capitol Hill.

One of them just murdered Cairn Delacroix’s mother.

As Cairn sifts through the rubble, she uncovers a conspiracy two decades in the making: a cursed island, the fellowship of gods who journeyed there, and the unspeakable act that intertwined their fates. One by one, the members of that voyage are dying, and Cairn’s investigations land her in the crosshairs of the rogue goddess responsible.

With the help of Nanook, a polar bear god turned detective, Cairn descends into Boston’s underworld of supernatural crime and political aspiration. To avenge her mother and unmask her assassin, sheโ€™ll first have to reckon with a gut-wrenching secret that will rewrite the life she thought she knew. TYCR – 23 May 2020 – The Perfect Hope (Inn BoonsBoro Trilogy #3) – Nora Roberts

Hola, Book Dragons, how are you? Another re-read for me. I was missing Ryder a lot so I wanted to re-read his story.

perfect hope

Synopsis:
#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts introduces you to the Montgomery brothers – Beckett, Ryder, and Owen – as they bring an intimate bed-and-breakfast to life in their hometown.

Ryder is the hardest Montgomery brother to figure out – with a tough-as-nails outside and possibly nothing too soft underneath. He’s surly and unsociable, but when he straps on a toolbelt, no woman can resist his sexy swagger. Except, apparently, Hope Beaumont, the innkeeper of his own Inn BoonsBoro…

As the former manager of a D.C. hotel, Hope is used to excitement and glamour, but that doesn’t mean she can’t appreciate the joys of small-town living. She’s where she wants to be – except for in her love life. Her only interaction with the opposite sex has been sparring with the infuriating Ryder, who always seems to get under her skin. Still, no one can deny the electricity that crackles between them…a spark that ignited with a New Year’s Eve kiss.

While the inn is running smoothly, thanks to Hope’s experience and unerring instincts, her big-city past is about to make an unwelcome – and embarrassing – appearance. Seeing Hope vulnerable stirs up Ryder’s emotions and makes him realize that while Hope may not be perfect, she just might be perfect for him…

Ryder is surly, annoying, straight to the point with his no-nonsense attitude. He’s prickly, sarcastic, absolutely irresistible. He’s my favorite among the Montgomery brothers.

TYCR – 17 May 2020 – The Pagan Stone (Sign of Seven #3) – Nora Roberts

Hola, Book Dragons, how are you? Today was Laundry Day for me. And yes, capital first letters like a title because I seriously hate Laundry Day. I’d rather read. I’m finally on Gage’s story and man, I wanted to keep reading instead of doing chores.

The Pagan Stone

Synopsis:
Years ago, after their blood brother ritual, Gage, Fox, and Caleb each emerged from the woods with a piece of bloodstone. Now, it will become their weapon in the final fight against the demon they awakened. Winner take all…

Shared nightmares, visions of blood and fire, and random violence begin to plague the longtime friends and the women bound to them by fate. None of them can ignore the fact that, this year, the demon has grown stronger–feeding off of the terror it creates. But now, the three pieces of the bloodstone have been fused back together. If only they could figure out how to use it.

A gambling man like Gage has no trouble betting on his crew to find a way. And though he and Cybil share the gift of seeing the future, that’s all they share. But Gage knows that a woman like Cybil–with her brains and strength and devastating beauty–can only bring him luck. Good or bad has yet to be determined–and could mean the difference between absolute destruction or an end to Hawkins Hollow’s nightmare…

Gage the Maverick. Okay, I admit it, he’s my favorite. I have a super soft spot for him, think gooey soft. I can’t help it. His childhood was hard and he could have let it harden him into a cruel man. Instead, he faced enormous odds and grew up into a good man. I really love him. He wouldn’t agree but he has such a good heart.

What about you guys? What are you reading?

TYCR – 14 May 2020 – The Hollow (Sign of Seven #2) – Nora Roberts

Hola, Book Dragons, how are you? Are you reading good books or ending up with low rating books? I hope you’re enjoying the books you are reading. For today’s TYCR, I’m on my re-read of the 2nd book in the Sign of Seven trilogy by Nora Roberts – The Hollow. Fox’s story. Man, I seriously love this trilogy and it feels good to be re-reading it.

The Hollow

Synopsis:
#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts continues the thrilling trilogy of a town plagued by evil–and the three men and three women brought together by fate to fight it.

For Fox, Caleb, Gage and the other residents of Hawkins Hollow, the number seven portends doom–ever since, as boys, they freed a demon trapped for centuries when their blood spilled upon The Pagan Stone…

Now, as the dreaded seventh month looms before them, the men can feel the storm brewing. Already they are plagued by visions of death and destruction. But this year, they are better prepared, joined in their battle by three women who have come to The Hollow. Layla, Quinn, and Cybil are somehow connected to the demon, just as the men are connected to the force that trapped it.

Since that day at The Pagan Stone, town lawyer Fox has been able to see into others’ minds, a talent he shares with Layla. He must earn her trust, because their link will help fight the darkness that threatens to engulf the town. But Layla is having trouble coming to terms with her newfound ability–and this intimate connection to Fox. She knows that once she opens her mind, she’ll have no defenses against the desire that threatens to consume them both…

I love Fox. Actually, I love all 3 guys but I have a soft spot for Gage and Fox. What about you guys, what are you currently reading?

TYCR – 10 May 2020 – Hideaway – Nora Roberts

Hola, Book Dragons, can you believe I was drafting this post last night to schedule it for today and then I left to wash the dishes and when I came back, the post had published itself? With all the mistakes that still needed correcting. *groan* I mean, what the hell? Does my laptop have a ghost or something? This does not bode well, especially after the ghost nightmare I had on Saturday. Continue reading “TYCR – 10 May 2020 – Hideaway – Nora Roberts”

TYCR – 25 Apr 2020 – Incendiary – Zoraida Cรณrdova

Hola, Book Dragons, what are you doing on this Saturday night? Cozy in bed, reading, I hope? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Stay safe! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m currently reading Incendiary (Hollow Crown #1) by Zoraida Cรณrdova. I couldn’t believe it when I was approved for this book on Netgalley. How gorgeous is this cover? ๐Ÿ˜€

Incendiary

Synopsis:
I am Renata Convida.
I have lived a hundred stolen lives.
Now I live my own.

Renata Convida was only a child when she was kidnapped by the King’s Justice and brought to the luxurious palace of Andalucia. As a Robari, the rarest and most feared of the magical Moria, Renata’s ability to steal memories from royal enemies enabled the King’s Wrath, a siege that resulted in the deaths of thousands of her own people.

Now Renata is one of the Whispers, rebel spies working against the crown and helping the remaining Moria escape the kingdom bent on their destruction. The Whispers may have rescued Renata from the palace years ago, but she cannot escape their mistrust and hatred–or the overpowering memories of the hundreds of souls she turned “hollow” during her time in the palace.

When Dez, the commander of her unit, is taken captive by the notorious Sangrado Prince, Renata will do anything to save the boy whose love makes her place among the Whispers bearable. But a disastrous rescue attempt means Renata must return to the palace under cover and complete Dez’s top secret mission. Can Renata convince her former captors that she remains loyal, even as she burns for vengeance against the brutal, enigmatic prince? Her life and the fate of the Moria depend on it.

But returning to the palace stirs childhood memories long locked away. As Renata grows more deeply embedded in the politics of the royal court, she uncovers a secret in her past that could change the entire fate of the kingdom–and end the war that has cost her everything.

The release date for this book is 28 April. I’m only a few chapters in but the story is intriguing and I already have tons of questions that need answering. You know what that means, Book Dragons, don’t you? ๐Ÿ˜‰ It means I gotta keep reading.

What about you guys, have you read this book? What are you currently reading?
