Book Review: The Kiss Quotient (The Kiss Quotient #1) – Helen Hoang

Rating: 4/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Genre: ContemporaryΒ Romance

Review:

Seeing this book often on my Instagram feed made me super curious to know what it was all about. Based on the cover and blurb, I figured it would be a cute romantic comedy. Boy, was I wrong. It was cute and a romance but oh my God, it was so hot it singed my fingers.

Let me explain. Stella Lane has Asperger’s – a developmental disorder where the person has difficulty interacting with other people and has a fixated set of ideologies or behaviorism. Due to that, Stella has a lot of difficulty in letting anyone touch her so having a normal relationship seems an impossibility. At the end of her wits, Stella decides to hire an escort to teach her the ins and outs of having a relationship.

Cue in Michael Phan. Picture me with hearts in my eyes. I LOVED MICHAEL. I loved how he was alternately baffled and fascinated with Stella. I loved what a complex equation of a person he was, with his own worries and failings and insecurities.

Watching Stella and Michael blunder their way through a relationship was a journey of many feels. Humor and sweetness and a surprising love with the heartbreak that followed it. What I didn’t expect in this romance was the heat level which was at once heartfelt and ooh, so sexy. The author’s writing was deep with a smooth flow that was a pleasure to read.

Blurb: A heartwarming and refreshing debut novel that proves one thing: there’s not enough data in the world to predict what will make your heart tick. Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases β€” a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old. It doesn’t help that Stella has Asperger’s and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice β€” with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can’t afford to turn down Stella’s offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan β€” from foreplay to more-than-missionary position… Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but to crave all the other things he’s making her feel. Soon, their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic…

I'm a die-hard bibliophile and I'm also an introvert. My blog's about books, books and more books. (yep, that was easy) I might, from time to time, write about life and its vagaries. I like taking pictures of books and doing origami.
